This trial is researching a new brain-training smartphone app that aims to reduce people’s automatic responses to images of alcohol to see if it can help people reduce their alcohol craving and consumption.

The trial is currently recruiting and compares different versions of the app to test whether the brain training can help people who are experiencing alcohol problems and want to reduce or stop drinking, but who are not seeking treatment.

For many Australians seeking help for alcohol use (Alcohol Use Disorder or AUD), attempts at recovery are complicated by co-occurring post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). New evidence supports integrated treatments, whereby the two problems of PTSD and AUD are treated together at the same time.
This study is investigating whether MDMA-assisted therapy is a safe and effective treatment for the management of both AUD and PTSD. While there is some evidence to show that MDMA-assisted psychotherapy may help reduce PTSD symptoms, there has not been a clinical trial to assess whether MDMA-assisted therapy could be beneficial for people with both PTSD and AUD.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) may be helpful to reduce drinking and craving in individuals with alcohol use disorder.

This multi-site trial will examine the benefits of NAC on participants' alcohol use, as well as other measures of change in well-being, mood and sleep. It is anticipated that the findings will contribute to evidence for the future use of NAC in the treatment of alcohol use disorder.

These trials are examining a new brain-training app that delivers alcohol avoidance training in two different settings.
1. One trial aims to test whether the app can help people in outpatient treatment reduce their alcohol use.
2. The second trial aims to test whether the app can help prevent alcohol relapse among people leaving residential rehabilitation.
